Position Overview
The Fundraising and Communications Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peterborough through strategic revenue generation and brand engagement. This position is responsible for implementing fundraising initiatives, coordinating donor and community outreach, and supporting the organization’s communications and marketing efforts. The ideal candidate is creative, relationship-focused, and results-driven, with strong communication skills and a passion for inspiring community support. Working closely with the Executive Director and staff team, this role supports the development of a positive public presence, strong donor relationships, and increased resources for local mentoring programs.
Fund Development (60%):
- Actively build and create a strong donor experience through storytelling, high-quality, meaningful communications and creative and consistent stewardship
- Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner
- Manage and grow Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peterborough’s corporate partnerships, including donations and sponsorship
- Support Executive Director with individual and major gifts giving programs, including research, prospecting, follow-up, reporting and managing donor relationships
- Collaborate with the Executive Director for grant writing applications and projects
- Build and manage various donation programs such as Big Believers, 100 x 100, and monthly giving, including stewardship calendar and communications plan, and acquisition strategy
- Manage donor database to ensure accurate and comprehensive information and also to identify opportunities
- Coordinate with all staff to identify opportunities to engage current and potential donors
- Monitor trends and research for new funding opportunities that are innovative and future oriented.
Communications (30%):
- Develop and promote positive messaging through local and national resources using both traditional and social media.
- Set targets for various communication channels, and then monitor, track and report regularly on progress
- Utilize and update current organizational communication calendar/plan
- Manage social media channels, including planning, content creation, community engagement and tracking of progress with collaboration from staff and Executive Director
- Manage website and email communications platform, including maintenance, and content creation
- Develop key materials for various audiences as needed
- Coordinate between all staff to ensure brand message is consistent, visible and communicated regularly
Events (10%):
- Support or lead key fundraising and donor relations events.
- Implement all fund development activities in accordance with ethical fundraising principles, funder requirements and applicable legislation.
- Support or lead grant related programming and projects.
Skill Requirements:
- Knowledge of fundraising concepts, strategies, and tools, with the ability to apply them effectively in a not-for-profit setting.
- Experience with researching and writing grants, proposals, and reports for foundations, corporations, and major donors is considered an asset.
- Understanding of communication principles, content management, and digital engagement, with experience in stakeholder relations being an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and networking skills, both verbal and written.
- Appreciation for the mission, values, and volunteer-driven culture of non-profit organizations.
- Ability to plan, execute, and evaluate programs and activities within set deadlines and available resources.
- Awareness of the needs and challenges faced by children, youth, and the communities served by Big Brothers Big Sisters.
- Passion or interest in working with children and youth in a supportive and empowering capacity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook), CRM systems, and social media and communication tools.
- Understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
- Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with graphic design software are considered assets.
- Knowledge of website management and understanding of web structure and function are assets.
Qualifications:
- A University degree and/or College diploma in a related field.
- Three to five years of demonstrated experience and success in fundraising.
- Experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, media, or government relations.
- Previous experience working in the non-profit sector.
- Must successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work is expected.

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
