Position Overview:
The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting the daily human resources functions and duties within our dynamic agricultural and food production environment. This role is responsible for providing HR support in recruitment, onboarding, compliance, employee relations, training, and health & safety initiatives, ensuring all practices align with federal and provincial employment standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate and manage full-cycle recruitment for production, maintenance, and administrative roles.
- Collaborate with supervisors and managers to forecast staffing needs and develop job postings.
- Conduct interviews, background checks, and reference verifications.
- Facilitate smooth and engaging onboarding for new hires, including orientations and training schedules.
Employee Relations
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions and concerns.
- Assist in resolving workplace issues, maintaining a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Promote company policies, practices, and culture.
HR Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in compliance with privacy laws and company standards.
- Prepare documentation for employee changes, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Support payroll and benefits administration by ensuring timely and accurate HR data.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Support workplace health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Assist with WSIB claims, modified work programs, and incident investigations.
- Support the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and coordinate safety training and certifications.
Training & Development
- Track employee training requirements and assist with the coordination of internal and external training initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying skill gaps and development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or a related field.
- CHRP designation (or working towards) preferred.
- 3–4 years of HR experience, ideally in manufacturing, agriculture, or food production environments.
- Knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards Act, OHSA, and other applicable regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
