The Human Resources Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, will primarily be responsible for supporting core HR functions, with a focus on payroll, benefits and RRSP administration, monthly HR reporting, health and safety compliance, union relations, investigations, and recruitment. This role plays a key part in ensuring legislative compliance, supporting a positive workplace culture, and delivering accurate, timely HR services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer biweekly payroll and ensure accurate, timely processing.
- Coordinate employee benefits enrolment and ongoing benefits administration.
- Oversee RRSP enrolment and maintain related records and compliance.
- Prepare and distribute monthly HR reports.
- Support workplace health and safety programs, inspections, committee and compliance efforts.
- Liaise with union representatives and support the management of collective agreement matters.
- Conduct or assist with workplace investigations in accordance with policies, legislation, and collective agreements.
- Support full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Human Resources department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a human resources role.
- Actively working toward the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
- Strong understanding of employment standards, health and safety regulations, and unionized environments.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems is considered an asset.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally an in writing.
- Ability to interpret company policies and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated time management skills.
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
