SUMMARY
The Junior Freight Auditor is responsible for the review, auditing, and processing of transportation-related invoices and billing data, including shipment cubing, interline carrier charges, and lumper service fees. This role ensures the accuracy of billing data, validates rates, and facilitates timely approvals for payment processing. Working closely with transportation systems and finance platforms, the Jr Auditor plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity and supporting overall transportation operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Audit freight bills to verify accuracy of charges and ensure proper application of customer pricing and fuel programs.
- Assign charges to new accounts and update systems as required.
- Review successful quotes and ensure correct application to corresponding shipments.
- Apply secondary charges (e.g., reships, shunting, trailer detention) based on supporting documentation or reports.
- Review delivery manifests to identify and correct any missed account updates or rating discrepancies.
- Conduct weekly and periodic audits of billing data to verify accuracy and contract compliance.
- Maintain records of interline partner rates and support invoice validation based on cost and service performance.
- Support ad hoc rate reviews, cost validations, and pricing updates as required.
- Maintain and update master cubing spreadsheets, recording shipment dimensions and weights to ensure accurate billing; apply re-rates when necessary.
- Maintain organized records of rates, audits, and invoices in compliance with documentation standards.
- Build and maintain cost models to support rate setting, profitability analysis, and ad hoc pricing reviews.
- Coordinate with operations teams, internal departments, and external vendors to validate source data, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure completeness of information.
- Manage high-volume invoice batches during peak periods, ensuring accuracy and timely approvals.
- All other duties as required.
- Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- 2 years of experience in LTL pricing, transportation auditing, or a similar role preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
- Familiarity with AS400 system is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to support cross-functional collaboration.
