Role Purpose
To support the new Freight Forwarding division of DP World as the primary point of contact for all items related to projects or special projects, with a strong focus on out-of-gauge freight. In this role you will use your operational expertise to overcome potential pitfalls, assign tasks, and resolve issues. Other duties include monitoring supplier performance, ensuring contractual obligations are met, and providing operational support to the entire logistics team. You will also manage all standard ground freight, road shipments, and potential courier shipments.
- Please note: This role can be based at our office in Toronto, ON or Burnaby, BC.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategically manage special freight needs at all ports for BCO’s & freight forwarders
- Ensure efficient freight utilization for out-of-gauge freight
- Initiate, coordinate and enforce optimal operational policies and procedures
- Operate special air, ground and ocean freight needs globally attached to Canada (including courier)
- Maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security
- Ensure supplier contracts are compliant
- Liaise with ports, clients, suppliers and transport companies
- Produce reports and statistics regularly
- Prepare to collaborate with all DPW ports & terminals globally
Ability to cross train and support daily freight business when required
Knowledge & Qualifications
- 10 plus years working within the logistics industry with a strong focus in Procurement, Freight procedures, Booking and Routing Management Control Tower, and Supply Chain Management
- Diploma or certificate from college or university, preferably in international trade, business or finance
- Proactive team player with strong customer service skills
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with clients, carriers, other forwarders, and vendors
- Extensive experience working in the procurement department in a related field
- Working knowledge of the industry and market conditions
- Strong understanding of procurement and negotiation techniques
- Ability to meet with suppliers and work overtime as required
- Knowledge and experience in PC and MS Office applications
- Fluent in English.
- Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
