Job Description
Applicants MUST have a current book of CDN/USA FTL / LTL / DRY VAN / FB cross-border active clientele (shippers) combined with a desire to excel within this business. This is a mandatory sales requirement! The Freight Broker will primarily quote over the road LTL and Truckload freight on behalf of our client base plus any new clients while achieving all goals and objectives set forth by the Management Team. The Freight Broker reports to the General Manager and will liaise between the Sales Team and Operations Team.
Note: This position can be modified to perfectly suit a more experienced broker/manager that will take control of the dept depending on background & expertise in 3PL Freight sales/operations. Salary or Commission structure depends on individuals past experience in logistics
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supply competitive freight shipping quotes to new and existing clients and prospects
- Negotiate LTL and Truckload spot rates with carrier and vendors
- Generate positive relationships with all customers, prospects and carrier vendors.
- Support the sales teams' efforts to increase our client base
- Maintain margin goals set forth by the Operations Manager
- Attract new business and increase the sales in the existing client base.
Skills Required:
- Have thorough knowledge of the North American over the road trucking market including but not limited to LTL, Truckload, flatbed, dry van, and temp control
- Advanced negotiation skills for rates negotiation in both clients base and in transport carriers.
- Knowledge of sales techniques including but not limited to, sales cycles, prospecting, sales closing techniques and relationship management.
- Computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel) and experience with dispatch management programs (Xpert, ITS dispatch, Tailwind, TMW, Axion, etc).
