Reporting to our Director of Human Resources, the Health and Safety Advisor plays a strategic role in accident prevention, the promotion of a safe work environment, and in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
As Health and Safety Advisor, your key responsibilities include:
- Updating, deploying, and ensuring the implementation of prevention policies and programs.
- Monitoring legal developments and ensuring governance and compliance with occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
- Contributing to the company’s strategic direction in terms of prevention.
- Guiding and supporting managers in their prevention and SST-related responsibilities, including workplace inspections to properly identify risks, and corrective actions to eliminate health and safety hazards.
- Planning and conducting audits to ensure compliance with health and safety procedures in the plant (e.g., isolation, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, working at heights, etc.).
- Representing the employer and collaborating during work refusals, complaints, or inspections by external stakeholders (e.g., CNESST).
- Playing a leadership role on the Health and Safety Committee, coordinating its activities and communications.
- Approving new products for the hazardous products system (WHMIS – SIMDUT), coordinating worker training, and maintaining the database with the emergency response team.
- Administering the program for personal protective equipment (PPE - EPI) based on risks, job roles, and work environments.
To excel in this role, you must have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (occupational health and safety, ergonomics, industrial relations, or other),
- Or a combination of a university certificate in occupational health and safety and relevant professional experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in occupational health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety laws (Québec and Ontario).
- Bilingual (French and English), spoken and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
