About the position:
Provide one-to-one, non-judgmental, respectful, and confidential support to anyone affected by elder abuse. Work with older adults, concerned family/friends, colleagues, partnerships and community. Provide intake, assessment, supports and case management to those at risk of or experiencing elder abuse. Navigating complex cases and the multiple systems involved as potential sources of supports. Raise awareness. Be an advocate. Do outreach and referral. Education and training on the prevention of relationship/elder abuse to older adults, youth/schools, agencies, businesses and broader community members/groups
Connect/re-connect individuals, stakeholders and communities to the local Coordinated Community Response Model for the Prevention of Elder Abuse
What you will do:
· Ensure victims of elder abuse receive sensitive care and emotional support needed to restore health and well-being
· Effectively engage with high-risk individuals and their families to build strong working relationships
· Perform initial screening, risk and safety assessment, and safety planning with participant
· Set goals with the participant and provide support to achieve said goals
· Transport participants to approved appointments and other organizations
· Develop and maintain beneficial relationships with support networks and other agencies
· Present educational information to the general public
· Take an active role in community engagement
Qualifications:
· Diploma in Social or Human Services, with relevant experience or equivalencies considered
· Experience in working with people who are experiencing family violence/elder abuse
· The ability to meet with individuals and discuss extremely sensitive and confidential issues
· Ability to work in a direct, honest, and nonjudgmental manner
· Compassionate with a positive and empathetic approach to others
· Respect for the diversity of cultural differences and beliefs
· Knowledge of community and relevant resources
· Understanding of how to set professional boundaries
· Ability to maintain computerized files and documentation
· Current Child Welfare Record Check and Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
· Valid driver’s license with a reliable car will be required
