Job Title: Navigation and Peer Support Worker
Location: 1330 5th Ave, Prince George, BC.
Pay: $23.10/hr
Position Type: Part-Time (12 to 15 hours a week)
Position Summary:
The Navigation and Peer Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting older adults and individuals from equity-denied populations to access community resources, social supports, and essential services. Through compassionate, one-on-one support, this role helps individuals navigate complex health, housing, social service, and transportation systems to improve their quality of life, reduce isolation, and foster independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct peer support and resource navigation to older adults, caregivers, and community members.
- Build trusting, empathetic relationships with clients through culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches.
- Assess client needs and support them in developing personalized action plans.
- Assist clients with accessing health care, housing, financial benefits, transportation services, food security programs, and social connections.
- Coordinate with community agencies, service providers, and healthcare professionals on behalf of clients.
- Offer system navigation assistance, including help with filling out forms, making referrals, and accompanying clients to appointments as needed.
- Facilitate group support sessions, community education, or wellness check-ins (as applicable).
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with privacy standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and team meetings coordinated by United Way BC.
- Collect data and contribute to program reporting and evaluation requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Lived experience or strong understanding of barriers faced by seniors, people with disabilities, newcomers, or other marginalized groups.
- Education or training in social work, community services, health navigation, gerontology, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with compassion, integrity, and cultural humility.
- Knowledge of local resources, service systems, and supports in Prince George and area
- Proficiency with basic computer programs (email, Microsoft Word, data entry).
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.
Working Conditions:
- Combination of office work, outreach, and/or home visits (depending on the model).
- Flexible hours may be required to meet client needs.
- Criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance is required.
