Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, the Analyst, Payroll Accounting is responsible for processing, validating and reconciling payroll accounting activities across OMERS and Oxford entities. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of payroll-related financial data, supporting both domestic and international payrolls.
As a valued member of the Corporate Accounting team, the Analyst will collaborate with stakeholders across the enterprise and work within multiple accounting systems to execute critical tasks. These include the processing and reconciliation of payroll feeds and journal entries, month-end close activities, and other ad hoc responsibilities as required. In this role you will contribute expertise, a desire to build a team community, and an eagerness to be a part of a winning culture. You will have opportunities to engage with external auditors, work alongside senior leaders, and develop new skillsets for growing your career.
Key Responsibilities:
Process and validate payroll accounting entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Prepare bank and other general ledger reconciliations.
Prepare variance and trend analyses.
Collaborate with other departments to investigate and resolve differences.
Take ownership of tasks ensuring all timelines and service levels are met.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, such as Payroll Advisory (HR), HR Technology, Finance Systems, Property Managers, and other accounting and FP&A teams across the organization.
Prepare working papers for external auditors as required.
Participate in the transition from Dayforce to Workday Payroll, contributing to the design and implementation of new processes, systems, and procedures.
Update and maintain process documentation.
Participate in technical training and development opportunities.
Participate in other accounting duties, special projects and ad-hoc requests, as required.
Continuously challenge current practices and offer fresh perspectives for optimization.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in general accounting entries, ideally with experience in payroll accounting.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Very strong attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate existing processes and identify areas for improvement.
Demonstrated ability to think critically and a proactive mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
A collaborative mindset and a desire to contribute to a high-performing, supportive team culture.
High standards of business and ethical values with the ability to deal with confidential information.
Results-oriented and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of Finance and HR systems, experience with Oracle, JD Edwards, Ceridian Dayforce, and Workday would be an asset.
