About Us:
U Multicultural is a non-profit ethnocultural media organization and community TV and radio broadcaster committed to reflecting the voices, stories, and perspectives of diverse communities in Manitoba and across Canada. With over 30 community partners, including Indigenous groups and national broadcasters, U Multicultural is a platform where multicultural voices are heard, celebrated, and empowered.
We are licensed by the CRTC and operate both a community TV channel and FM radio, offering programming in multiple languages. Our mission is to build bridges among communities, foster inclusion, and amplify underrepresented voices in Canadian media.
Position Overview:
U Multicultural is currently seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors as Volunteer Board Members. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your leadership and expertise to a growing media organization committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community impact.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction, governance, and oversight of U Multicultural’s mission and operations.
- Contribute to decision-making on key organizational policies, fundraising efforts, and community engagement strategies.
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings (approx. 6 times per year) and serve on committees as needed.
- Act as an ambassador for U Multicultural, promoting its work and expanding its network.
- Support compliance with legal and ethical standards for a registered non-profit media organization.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest in community building, diversity, media, or non-profit governance.
- Previous board or leadership experience in the non-profit or broadcasting sectors is an asset but not required.
Experience in any of the following areas is especially valued:
- Media and communications
- Finance and fundraising
- Legal and policy
- Indigenous and multicultural community engagement
- Youth programming or education
- Strong commitment to U Multicultural’s mission and values.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of board members and staff.
Time Commitment:
Approx. 3–6 hours per month, including meeting preparation, attendance, and committee work. Board members serve a 2-year renewable term.
