Volunteer Board Member
Location: Bereaved Families of Ontario – South Eastern Region (BFOSER)

Position Summary:
Board Members at BFOSER are compassionate, community-minded individuals who play a vital role in supporting grieving individuals and families. As part of the governing body, Board Members provide strategic oversight, policy direction, and hands-on support to advance the organization’s mission. This role requires active involvement, particularly in the areas of marketing, fundraising, grant writing, and partnership development, to ensure the long-term sustainability and visibility of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings, annual general meetings, and relevant subcommittees.
- Contribute time and expertise toward BFOSER’s strategic goals and operational priorities.
- Lead or support efforts in fundraising, including organizing donor campaigns, sponsorships, and special events.
- Assist in the writing and review of grant proposals, identifying new funding opportunities.
- Promote BFOSER’s services and events through marketing and outreach efforts, including social media, public relations, and community engagement.
- Build and strengthen community partnerships with organizations, funders, businesses, and service clubs.
- Ensure strong governance practices, including reviewing financial reports and contributing to organizational planning.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for BFOSER within the community, helping to raise awareness of its mission and services.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Marketing and Communications – Skills in branding, digital outreach, social media, or campaign development.
- Fundraising and Event Planning – Experience engaging donors, planning events, or leading campaigns.
- Grant Writing – Ability to write, edit, or contribute to funding applications.
- Partnership Development – A strong community network and ability to foster new collaborative relationships.
- Teamwork, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills.
- Lived or professional experience in grief support or community service is an asset.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of BFOSER.
- Ability to dedicate up to 5 hours per week to board and organizational responsibilities.
- Willingness to take initiative and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Previous board or volunteer leadership experience is helpful but not required.
Additional Information:
- This is a volunteer, unpaid position.
- Training and orientation will be provided to all incoming board members.

Job Types: Part-time, Casual
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
