Volunteer Coordinator (Volunteer position)
Location: Bereaved Families of Ontario – South Eastern Region (BFOSER)
Position Type: Part-Time (Up to 5 hours per week)
Position Summary:
BFOSER is seeking a compassionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to oversee the operations of our Drop-In Centre. This position is a volunteer position. This part-time role is ideal for someone empathetic, dependable, and comfortable navigating conversations related to grief and loss. The Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in creating a welcoming, supportive environment for individuals and families navigating bereavement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drop-In Centre Oversight:
- Open and close the Drop-In Centre as scheduled.
- Ensure the physical space is clean, comfortable, and ready for visitors.
- Maintain a calm, welcoming, and safe atmosphere for grieving individuals.
- Volunteer Management:
- Schedule, coordinate, and support a team of drop-in volunteers.
- Provide on-site guidance and act as the primary point of contact for volunteers.
- Ensure volunteers are trained and aligned with the organization’s approach to grief support.
- Bereavement Support and Communication:
- Welcome visitors with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Provide compassionate support and appropriate referrals as needed.
- Model respectful communication and active listening in all interactions related to grief and bereavement.
Qualifications:
- Experience in volunteer coordination or group facilitation (preferably in a nonprofit or bereavement setting).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Work Conditions:
- Part-time, flexible schedule (up to 5 hours per week).
- In-person presence required at the Drop-In Centre in the South Eastern Ontario region.
- Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required based on volunteer schedules.
- This position is a volunteer position.
