Volunteer Coordinator (Volunteer position)
Location: Bereaved Families of Ontario – South Eastern Region (BFOSER)
Position Type: Part-Time (Up to 5 hours per week)
Position Summary:
The Treasurer is a volunteer member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing the financial health, integrity, and transparency of BFOSER. This role includes managing financial processes, supporting budget development, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial standards and reporting obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the principal financial officer for the organization and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including banking, bookkeeping oversight, and financial documentation.
- Prepare or support the preparation of the annual operating budget.
- Review and present monthly financial reports to the Board, including income and expense tracking and bank reconciliation.
- Ensure that accurate records are kept of all financial transactions and accounts.
- Monitor the organization’s financial position and provide guidance on risk, sustainability, and long-term planning.
- Lead the preparation and filing of annual returns, financial reports, and audit materials as required by funders or regulatory bodies.
- Support other board members and volunteers in understanding financial reports and making fiscally responsible decisions.
- Liaise with external accountants, bookkeepers, or auditors as needed.
Qualifications:
- Background in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or related field.
- Experience with nonprofit financial management is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and transparency.
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to board members with varying levels of financial knowledge.
- Reliable, organized, and committed to the mission and values of BFOSER.
Assets (Preferred but not required):
- CPA designation or equivalent financial experience.
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage).
- Previous experience serving on a nonprofit board or in a volunteer leadership role.
Additional Information:
- This is a volunteer, unpaid position.
- Average time commitment is approximately 5 hours per week, including preparation for board and finance committee meetings.

- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
