Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Fiber Splicing Technician to support our telecom projects in Manitoba. The Splicing Technician will be responsible for splicing fiber optic cables, testing connections, and ensuring proper installation from hubs to premises. You will work closely with construction crews, project coordinators, and QC personnel to deliver clean and accurate splicing work on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground environments
- Prepare, install, splice, and test fiber optic cables in hubs, vaults, pedestals, and NIDs
- Use OTDR, power meters, and other testing tools to ensure fiber connectivity meets project specs
- Read and interpret fiber schematics, splicing plans, and work orders
- Document and label all completed splices and fiber routing for quality control and future reference
- Work with construction crews to coordinate timelines and handoff points
- Troubleshoot fiber issues and perform repairs when needed
- Ensure all splicing work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards and industry best practices
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in fiber optic splicing or related telecom fieldwork
- Proficient in fusion splicing, fiber preparation, and OTDR testing
- Strong understanding of fiber types, color codes, and network layouts
- Ability to read splicing diagrams, work orders, and fiber network plans
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, vaults, and confined spaces
- Valid driver’s license (Class G or higher); Class DZ or AZ is an asset
- WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space, or Fiber Safety certifications are an asset (training provided if needed)
