About The Newcomer Centre
The Newcomer Centre has been a welcoming space for immigrants and refugees since 1981. Every year, we support people from over 100 countries in more than 30 languages.
Our vision is simple but powerful: every newcomer has the opportunity to thrive. Our work is grounded in four core values: Interconnectedness, Empowerment, Compassion, and Accountability.
We believe in people’s strengths. We work together. And we show up every day to make it easier for newcomers to settle, grow, and thrive.

We are looking for a friendly and resourceful person to be the first point of contact in the Resource Centre. This role is all about helping visitors feel comfortable, guiding them to the right tools and services, and giving hands-on support with everyday tasks that make a big difference.
In addition, the Resource Room Facilitator is also responsible for providing coverage during Program Facilitator absences, such as vacations or sick leaves, by delivering and facilitating virtual and/or in-person program activities, workshops, and training sessions for participants.

- Provide hands-on help with computer use, email setup, online forms, and job search activities (résumés, cover letters, job postings).
- Support clients in connecting with counsellors, settlement staff, or external services for additional needs.
- Maintain the Resource Centre by keeping it organized and stocked with updated postings, materials, and resources.
- Track attendance and document client interactions in iStedy, contributing to program reporting.
- Provide coverage for Program Facilitators during absences by delivering workshops, job clubs, or other program activities (in-person or virtual).
- Facilitate program sessions and workshops, adapting methods to meet diverse learner needs.
- Motivate and engage participants, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with program teams (Career Practitioners, Coordinators, Managers) to align services and share client progress.
- Assist with administrative duties related to program delivery, such as preparing materials and updating records.
Qualifications & Key Attributes
- Post-secondary education in career development, human services, education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–2 years of experience in a resource room, employment services, customer service, or program facilitation role.
- Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office, internet searches, online job platforms).
- Experience facilitating workshops or group sessions, with ability to adapt to diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity and patience.
- Organized and flexible, able to balance Resource Centre support with program delivery responsibilities.
- Experience working with newcomers or diverse populations is a strong asset.
