Position Title: Co-Facilitator, Y Mind Teen

Location: Prince George

Terms: Casual/Substitute

Start Date: ASAP for training, Group delivery begins early September (date TBD)

Hours: 2-4 hours per week during group delivery, plus initial training (must be available for after school hours)

Salary: $31-33 per hour, depending on experience and education

Reports to: Supervisor, Y Mind Teen & Youth

Nature and Scope:

The YMCA Y Mind Program helps young people experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety to learn healthy coping strategies and connect with link-minded youth in safe and encouraging group environments.

The Y Mind Facilitator will co-lead this psychoeducation and support group with one other facilitator to help participants learn about their anxiety and discover helpful coping tools through creative activities and discussions grounded in mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The Y Mind Youth program meets for 2.5 hours weekly for 7 weeks. Two Y Mind facilitators are responsible for the intake and screening of 12 group participants, co-facilitation of the program, and delivery of the program.

Reporting to the Y Mind Teen & Youth Supervisor, the Y Mind Facilitator will work collaboratively with other staff and participants. If program participants require additional support, the Y Mind Facilitator will provide appropriate community referrals.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with another facilitator to deliver the Y Mind Program
  • Intake and assessment of program participants, both in-person and by Zoom
  • Participate in planning, information sessions, assessment, evaluation, and follow-up
  • Must be available for prep and debriefing of all sessions, including information sessions
  • Keep accurate records and provide statistics and other relevant information to coordinator
  • Maintain a solid understanding of available resources and provide information, support, and referrals to community agencies for applicants and participants as indicated and available

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, preferably Masters level education in a mental health field, experience with individuals and groups of youth with mental health challenges
  • Strong communication skills with diverse populations, both spoken and written
  • Three professional references and clear Criminal Record Check

  • Self-Management – ability to appropriately manage one’s own emotions and strong feelings; maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances; and think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Encompasses self-regulation and mindfulness.
  • Teamwork/ Cooperation – ability to work cooperatively and productively with others within and across organizational units to achieve common goals; demonstrate respect, cooperation, collaboration, and consensus-building.
