Referral Clerk Position - Family Practice Clinic
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Referral Clerk to join our busy family practice clinic. This multifaceted role combines referral coordination, third-party billing, and cross-coverage support for our front office team.
Key Responsibilities
Referral Management:
- Process and coordinate patient referrals to specialists and external healthcare providers
- Ensure all referral documentation is complete and accurate
- Follow up on referral status and communicate updates to patients and healthcare team
- Maintain referral tracking systems and databases
Third-Party Billing:
- Prepare and submit claims to third-party insurance providers
- Process Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims
- Follow up on outstanding claims and resolve billing discrepancies
Cross-Coverage Support:
- Provide reception coverage as needed, including answering phones, scheduling appointments and greeting patients
- Assist medical office assistants
Schedule & Hours
- 4 days per week
- Primary hours: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Occasional extended hours: 8:30 - 5:00 PM as needed
- Flexible scheduling to meet clinic operational needs
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency with computer systems and software applications
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Understanding of healthcare billing processes and insurance procedures
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Preferred:
- Previous experience in healthcare administration or medical office environment
- Experience with referral coordination and third-party billing
- Med Access EMR experience is a significant asset
Compensation
- Starting wage: $20.00 per hour
- Experience consideration: Wage adjustments based on relevant experience
