The Commissioning Piping Superintendent will promote and provide leadership for Safety, assist in directing and coordinating the daily activities of Commissioning Piping craft. An advanced level of knowledge within the the discipline relevant to process equipment and piping systems and a strong understanding of other engineering discipline interfaces. District Overview
Kiewit Energy Canada is a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oil sands processing, including steam–assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments. We are headquartered in Calgary and also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada. Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural disciplines.
Location
This position will be based on our project in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The successful candidate will be local or available to travel on a rotation to this project.
Responsibilities
- Assume direct responsibility of all mechanical components and systems integrity for completion of contractual requirements with the highest degree of safety and quality.
- Direct and coordinate the daily activities of field mechanical techs and construction craft.
- Hold and/or attend daily safety meetings.
- Lead and insist on strict adherence to lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO) and policies.
- Daily spot check Job Hazard Analysis, (JHA) for each assigned crew.
- Develop scoped packages and necessary forms for completion and turnover package.
- Develop work procedures and packages for component and system testing.
- Read and adhere to Startup Administration Manual.
- Read and understand all contractual requirements for completion, including permitting and EPA requirements.
- Perform drawing reviews for accuracy.
- Maintain all drawings and databases to ensure accurate “As-Built” information and drawings.
- Promote and insist on good housekeeping in the office and on the project site.
- Ensure spare parts and consumables necessary for the proper operations of each assigned system are available.
- Coordinate initial system flushing, functional testing and operation of plant systems.
- Troubleshoot and isolate system problems including correcting or suggesting resolutions and providing a written report of the results.
- Checkout installed systems and equipment adhering to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements, system descriptions and power plant practices.
- Track progress of assigned systems and provide startup manager with a timely report of progress and activities.
- Perform construction process assessments during system walk-downs and identify exceptions and deficiencies.
- Perform commissioning and testing of individual components, systems, and station as a complete integrated unit to meet all contractual obligations.
- Advanced proficiency in industry codes and standards relevant to the field of expertise
Qualifications
- 10 years’ minimum serving as a Piping/Mechanical Lead.
- Multiple years of experience in Industrial/Gas Process/Refinery and/or petrochemical industries.
- EPC experience
- Must have broad technical knowledge of the detail design engineering process
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to conduct field visits, climb stairs, ladders, and life up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule
