Duties

The project for which this student is being hired involves the study of an archival collection of indicator minerals related to Zn-Pb mineralization in the Mackenzie Mountains region of Northwest Territories. Renewed interest in this region and its mineralization stems from recognition of their associated critical mineral contents (e.g. Cu, Zn, In, Ga, Ge). The study will determine whether multi-element chemical, isotopic, and petrological characterizations of indicator minerals can be used to discriminate the source, dispersal history, and geochemical character of different deposits, both known and unknown. This research will contribute to the regional geological understanding that is relevant to questions of mineralization, mineral dispersal, and sphalerite trace element chemistry as part of the Targeted Geoscience Initiative program of the Geological Survey of Canada.

The Geological Survey of Canada is part of Natural Resources Canada’s Lands and Minerals Sector. It is a national organization for geoscientific information and research.
