Job Summary
As a lead, you will provide qualitative methodological expertise and deploy qualitative methods and analytics for a wide variety of purposes, such as studies, reviews, evaluation, and engagement. You will be responsible for qualitative project design, implementing qualitative methods, qualitative analysis and interpretation of results, and reporting. As well, the position is responsible and accountable for province-wide engagement methods that require a flexible interpersonal style to build, manage, and/or support a cohesive project team and relationships with external partners.
Key Responsibilities
· Applies advanced knowledge of qualitative research design, data collection, and analysis to projects focused on a specific patient population, health sector, or system priority area.
· Leads the implementation of rigorous, ethically sound approaches that reflect the lived experiences, values, and perspectives of the target population, supporting improvements in patient safety, person-centred care, and health service quality.
· Works closely with the Lead - Qualitative Methods to align project practices with organization-wide methodological standards and to access scientific guidance when needed.
· Monitors emerging trends, literature, and policy developments relevant to the assigned population, translating these into insightful qualitative inquiries and practical recommendations.
· Generates project ideas that align with the organization’s legislated mandate and evolving health system priorities by engaging internal teams and external health system partners, as well as develops well-scoped project proposals to advance shared objectives.
· Participates as a project lead or team member on internal or external initiatives by demonstrating effective project management planning and implementation practices.
· Plans, manages, and implements assigned projects effectively; this includes the development of project charters, timelines, and selection of team members.
· Leads and/or develops, with project team members, appropriate reporting mechanisms that are tailored to the audience.
· In conjunction with the Health System Improvement team, identifies issues and recommends courses of action that will promote and improve health service quality, person-centred care and patient safety.
· Identifies opportunities and takes action to build and maintain strategic working relationships and/or networks of contacts between one’s work area and other areas, teams, departments, or external organizations to help achieve the organization’s strategic and business goals as it pertains to qualitative analytics and methods.
· Demonstrates skillful health system partner engagement and collaboration with others to achieve common goals and positive results.
· Participates in and representation on various provincial, national and/or international committees and working groups.
· Builds organizational capacity through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across the organization, as appropriate.
Qualifications
· Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., sociology, anthropology, public health, psychology, health services research) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 7+ years of progressive experience conducting qualitative research, including study design, data collection (e.g., interviews, focus groups, observations), analysis, and reporting, with demonstrated expertise in a specific patient population or health sector.
· Strong grounding in ethical practices and methodologically sound approaches to qualitative design, data management and analysis.
· Proven ability to generate actionable insights from complex qualitative data, enhance research processes, and adapt methods to diverse health system partner needs.
· Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and working across sectors to support system improvement through qualitative evidence.
· Knowledge and understanding of Alberta’s healthcare system.
· Organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Collaboration and teamwork are essential to the success of the organization.
· Flexible and adaptable with a willingness to learn and embrace new technologies and methodologies.
Working conditions
· Willing to travel throughout Alberta, with occasional travel out of province.
· Willing to work in a fast-paced work environment that requires flexibility and openness to change.
· Location: Calgary, Alberta
· Hybrid work environment: 3 days in the office (mandatory).
· Anticipated start date: August 1, 2025.
