Job Summary
As a senior technical expert / methodologist and project lead, you will provide advice on health economic methods and in acquiring, accessing, and using administrative healthcare data. This includes, but is not limited to, extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes, economic study design and analytical plans, interpreting results, and reporting. The position is responsible and accountable for identifying opportunities to improve database management as well as planning, developing, and implementing database processes and structures that support value-based health system analysis. As well, the position is expected to identify operational and/or strategic insights from administrative healthcare databases.
Key Responsibilities
· Provides senior scientific leadership across all health economic and administrative data initiatives, ensuring the use of rigorous, innovative, and evidence-based methodologies.
· Establishes and maintains organization-wide standards for economic evaluations and the acquisition, transformation, integration, analysis, and reporting of administrative data.
· Serves as the primary scientific advisor to internal teams, supporting complex methodological decisions and promoting consistency and quality across projects.
· Identifies, evaluates, and integrates emerging trends in health economic methods, and administrative data methodology and governance to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of health system analytics.
· Collaborates with the Executive Director to define strategic direction and resource needs (e.g., training, tools, infrastructure) that strengthen the methodological foundation and sustainability of the organization’s health economic capacity and use of administrative data.
· Generates project ideas that align with the organization’s legislated mandate and evolving health system priorities by engaging internal teams and external health system partners and develops well-scoped project proposals to advance shared objectives.
· Identifies opportunities and takes action to build and maintain strategic working relationships and/or networks of contacts between one’s work area and other areas, teams, departments, or external organizations to help achieve the organization’s strategic and business goals.
· Builds organizational capacity through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing across the organization, as appropriate.
· Oversees resourcing across projects and ensures effective delegation and workload management.
· Manages team dynamics, resolves conflicts and communication challenges
Qualifications
· PhD in a relevant field (e.g., economics, public health, health services research), or a Master’s degree with equivalent experience.
· 5+ years of progressive experience in health economic methods (i.e., economic evaluation, cost-effectiveness analysis and modleing) and administrative data (i.e., data acquisition, transformation, analysis, and reporting) with demonstrated leadership supporting multi-disciplinary teams.
· Strong grounding in ethical practices and methodologically sound approaches to quantitative design, data management and analysis.
· Proficient with database manipulation, computer programming and related analytical software including R, Stata, SAS, or Python.
· Extensive analytical knowledge and skills, and the ability to identify innovative solutions for complex database structure and analytical problems, as well as identifying opportunities to improve database management and manipulation.
· Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
· Flexible and adaptable with a willingness to learn and embrace new technologies and methodologies.
· Leadership and facilitation skills to manage diverse groups.
Working conditions
· Willing to travel throughout Alberta, with occasional travel out of province.
· Willing to work in a fast-paced work environment that requires flexibility and openness to change.
· Location: Calgary, Alberta
· Hybrid work environment: 3 days in the office (mandatory).
· Anticipated start date: August 1, 2025.
