GIS Co-Op Student

Why this Role
Are you a GIS student passionate about spatial technology and telecommunications? At Encepta, we're looking for a talented GIS Co-Op Student to join our team that brings connectivity to communities through fiber optic and wireless networks. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in both telecommunications and GIS fields, with opportunities to learn from our in-house Design/Engineering mentors while applying your technical skills to real-world projects.
This is an 8-12 month full-time contract position, ideally starting in September 2025.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Reporting to our Manager, Ops Excellence and collaborating with various departments, your responsibilities will include:
- Operating GIS & CAD technology to create field packages and analyze data
- Maintaining data integrity in our Enterprise GIS by processing and manipulating data according to standards
- Creating and maintaining documentation for workflow procedures
- Liaising with other departments to build integrated data workflows
- Supporting the development of new workflows and automating existing data tasks
- Participating in research and development projects including testing activities
- Upholding and promoting adherence to safety procedur
What Success Looks Like
Within your co-op term, you'll be:
- Creating accurate GIS datasets and field packages
- Developing and implementing automated workflows
- Contributing to process improvements across departments
- Gaining valuable experience in telecommunications infrastructure
- Building technical skills in GIS, CAD, and programming
What We're Looking For
- Education: Currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in GIS or related field
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience with Esri Products, spatial application design, spatial analysis, and workflow automation using Python or Model Builder
- Programming Knowledge: Strong background in programming and database development, with a focus on Python, SQL, JavaScript, and web mapping services
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, innovative environments
- Problem-Solving Excellence: Strong analytical skills with the ability to research new approaches
- Time Management: Organized, time-conscious and focused on results
- Software Proficiency: Experience with Google Suite or equivalent Microsoft apps
