What can you expect in this role?
Reporting to the Director, Business Development (BD), the Business Development Advisor contributes to Definity’s growth and profitability by actively managing and growing relationships within the existing Broker network as well as building relationships with new Brokers in their territory.
The incumbent is responsible for development and implementation of sales plans and manages the sales pipeline at the broker level, actively monitors broker performance and provides guidance, support, and relevant training to brokers within the region.
The candidate advocates for the broker, escalating and engaging Economical stakeholders where appropriate. The incumbent collaborates with their peers in UW and Claims to share market intelligence and deliver a consistent broker experience which meets or exceeds the brokers expectation. The incumbent must be an energetic and service-oriented team player with exceptional customer service, verbal and written communication skills, and a strong ability to influence with effective negotiation skills.

Responsibilities
- Delivering profitable gross written premium (GWP)
- Evaluate assigned brokers within their territory to drive new business premium to achieve targets.
- Developing and implementing sales plans and managing pipelines at their territory and broker level.
- Implements the CI segment strategies, broker segmentation strategy, and the regional strategy; to deliver profitable growth.
- Providing input to the Director, Business Development on continuous improvement opportunities for functional processes and technologies to drive efficiencies.
- Managing relationships with their assigned Brokers as related to Commercial Insurance and acting as a point of contact for inquiries. The responsibility will be 100% Commercial lines.
- Conducting quarterly broker reviews for their territory, and actively monitoring broker performance
- Actively monitoring broker performance and provide guidance, support, and relevant training to brokers within the territory.
- Negotiate, escalate, and engage Economical stakeholders where appropriate.
- Collecting and escalating market intelligence and providing input for analysis.
- Identifies opportunities, including portfolio transfers, and new broker appointments - Effectively engages with Brokers to influence Brokers to recommend Economical as the insurer of choice - Develops feasible/profitable innovative solution(s) while working together with the broker, underwriter and/or claims.
What you bring to the role?
Experience & Educational Qualifications
- University degree in any discipline or a college diploma in a relevant discipline
- Must have a Broker Level 2 License or be willing to obtain the license within the first 90 days of employment. Candidates will not be permitted to perform their duties as a BDA until this license has been obtained. Licensing costs will be covered by Family.
- CIP designation or a commitment to completing the CIP is required.
- Additional designations are considered an asset (e.g., FCIP, Certified Sales Professional (CSP))
- Minimum of 5 years of Commercial Property and Casualty experience, preferably in sales or marketing.
- Preference will be given to candidates with sales experience and/or previous personal or commercial lines underwriting experience.
- Exceptional customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong ability to influence and effectively negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to coordinate 2-3 days overnight travel every six weeks if required.
- Valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the company
- A strong network of commercial lines broker relationships within British Columbia and the proven ability to create and nurture new relationships.
The BC Business Development team incorporates Family and Economical products; employment will be based out of Family. The majority of this role will be dedicated to the commercial (Economical) products.
Actual salary for the role may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in various incentive plans which are paid out at the company's discretion and subject to individual and company performance.We also take potential into consideration.
