Position purpose:

Reporting to the Manager, Finance, performs daily operations for all requests related to accounts payable, financial systems and compliance with University of Ottawa financial regulations. Assists decentralized users, to maximize their ability to use financial systems and complete their tasks related to accounts payable. Ensures exceptional service for users, meeting or exceeding established standards.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Serves as a contact person for decentralized users, providing expert advice, including troubleshooting to determine the user’s situation, the exact cause of the problem in question and the means to resolve it. Ensures appropriate communication and timely follow up to provide proper support to decentralized users.
  • Analyzes data and documentation for accuracy, and liaises with faculties and services to correct inconsistencies related to data on payments to vendors. Monitors and queries financial systems to ensure proper, effective operations regarding invoice entry and approval, vendor creation and large reimbursements for the entire University, to maintain payment integrity and transparency and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Keeps the chart of accounts up to date and conducts activities related to creation and modification of all its components. Ensures integrity of general ledger data entry and financial reports.
  • Analyzes complex reports regarding consumption taxes, information to produce T4A slips, capitalization of assets and transactions with non-sufficient funds. Modifies T4A slips on the Canada Revenue Agency website.
  • Communicates and applies policies and procedures to inform and train decentralized users and external providers.
  • Updates guides and training on accounts payable applications to ensure that decentralized users have the knowledge needed to perform their duties.


What you will bring:

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting, accounts payable and financial system administration normally acquired through postsecondary education in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Degree in accounting or finance (an asset)
  • Five years’ demonstrated experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software, including accounts payable software, databases and spreadsheets
  • Experience in planning, analysis and finding quick solutions
  • Experience in interpreting, explaining and applying policies and regulations
  • Good understanding of client needs and the university environment
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines
  • Superior interpersonal relations skills

  • Bilingualism — English/French (spoken and written)
