This position is located in the Oral Health Clinic at 200 John Street West in Oshawa, Ontario.
Reporting to the Director of Oral Health, the incumbent will:
- Manage the clinical programs in the Oral Health Division ensuring Ontario Public Health Standards requirements are met
- Manage activities related to infection prevention and control, scheduling of patients, clinical continuous quality activities, audit documentation for accuracy and compliance with statutory obligations
- Manage multi-disciplinary team including, denturists, registered dental hygienists and dental assistants and clerical staff
- Work with the Social Services Department to support the oral health needs of their clients
- Have full human resources responsibility for registered dental hygienists and dental assistants as well as be responsible for health and safety activities in the clinic
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards of practice and collective agreements
- Conduct all aspects of performance management for assigned staff including coaching, mentoring and staff development
- Ensure continuous quality improvement for public health programs and services
- Conduct gap analysis within the program, reviewing existing resources and identifying necessary revisions
- Conduct research on new and emerging issues in clinical dentistry that may necessitate additional resources
- Assist in the preparation of annual budget documentation and review/approve requests for program materials
- Review urgent cases and consult with Director of oral health/ clinical manager as needed, ensuring timely follow up and appropriate treatment is received
- Liaise with community partners and external stakeholders to promote oral health and access of services in priority populations
- Represent the Oral Health Division on inter-divisional, departmental and external client committees
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines to facilitate program and divisional operations
The successful applicant will possess:
- Certification to practice dental hygiene in the province of Ontario (and maintain certification throughout employment)
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline
- Progressive dental public health hygiene experience
- Previous management experience in a public health or hospital setting
- A Master's Degree in a relevant area such as Health Sciences, Education, Business, or related discipline will be considered an asset
- Sound knowledge of applicable legislation including the Ontario Public Health Standards, Ontario Health and Safety Act, Municipal Freedom of Information Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, and Regulated Health Professions Act
- Sound knowledge of the practice of dental hygiene, the relationship to general health, as well as knowledge of the various Government funded programs and relevant legislation governing them
- Proven ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs
- The ability to facilitate a problem-solving process and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with effective multi-tasking, and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated presentation and report writing skills
- Fluency in a second language will be considered an asset
- Salary: $95,818 to $119,773 per annum
