Position Summary:
The Support & Outreach Services Coordinator plays an integral role in ensuring the academic success, well-being, and holistic development of VCCTs diverse student population. As a central member of the Student Services team, this role is responsible for coordinating individualized student support, building strategic community partnerships, and leading initiatives that enhance student engagement and retention. This position also contributes to the development of inclusive student programming and plays a key role in implementing institutional student success strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support & Retention

  • Serve as the first point of contact for students seeking academic guidance, wellness support, accessibility accommodations, or personal referrals.
  • Provide proactive outreach and case management for students flagged as at-risk by instructors, administrative staff, or self-identified.
  • Offer one-on-one support and coaching to help students navigate academic, emotional, and social challenges.
  • Liaise with faculty, administration, and external partners to create and monitor individualized student support plans.
  • Coordinate and facilitate student wellness initiatives, educational workshops, peer-led programs, and community-building activities.
  • Maintain confidential student records in accordance with institutional privacy protocols and provincial regulations.

Outreach, Community & Engagement

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external service providers, employers, mental health professionals, and community-based organizations to enhance the student resource network.
  • Coordinate volunteer, practicum, and service-learning opportunities for students in collaboration with external partners.
  • Represent VCCT at outreach and recruitment events, job fairs, and community engagement forums.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Admissions to promote student services and highlight student success stories.
  • Contribute to institutional retention strategies through data-informed outreach and intervention planning.

Administration & Program Development

  • Maintain and regularly update internal directories of support resources, referrals, and emergency contacts.
  • Collect and analyze data related to student engagement, support service usage, and retention; prepare regular reports for administration.
  • Assist in policy development and implementation related to student wellness, accommodation, and community conduct.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives across campus.
  • Plan and Assist student onboarding, orientation, and transition programming.
  • Develop and disseminate educational resources on well-being, stress management, and academic success.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Participate in cross-functional committees and working groups as required.
  • Assist the Academic and Administrative departments with events, accreditation, compliance, and quality assurance reporting.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the administration to support the evolving needs of the college and its students.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Student Affairs, Education, or a related human services field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in student services, outreach, case management, or student engagement within a post-secondary or non-profit setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health supports, crisis intervention strategies, and culturally responsive care.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a compassionate and inclusive approach to student support.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
  • Highly organized with strong administrative, time management, and digital record-keeping skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with student information systems and virtual learning environments (e.g., Canvas) is an asset.
