Shop Manager / Fabrication Supervisor
Location: Toronto, ON (On-site)
Compensation: Up to $35/hour (based on experience)

Under our flagship brand aaline, we produce precision-engineered lighting and acoustic systems that integrate sustainable practices with modern craftsmanship. Our design studio and fully equipped fabrication shop are co-located in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood, enabling end-to-end project execution.
The Role
We are looking for a Shop Manager / Fabrication Supervisor to take full ownership of day-to-day shop operations and grow into a senior management role based on performance.
This is a leadership position, reporting directly to the Managing Director. You’ll oversee the fabrication team, shop scheduling, production workflows, and enforce the discipline, safety, and organization required to run a high-performance shop. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on fabrication experience with team leadership, project management, and a drive for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Shop Supervision & Team Leadership
- Lead day-to-day operations on the shop floor
- Supervise junior fabricators, assign tasks, and enforce project timelines
- Ensure projects stay on schedule and meet production and quality benchmarks
- Provide mentorship and accountability for all shop staff
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members
- Maintain a positive, safety-focused, and respectful work culture
Shop Upkeep, Safety & Maintenance
- Ensure the shop is clean, organized, and optimized for daily work
- Maintain tools, equipment, and systems — including CNC, woodworking, and hand tools
- Create and enforce daily/weekly checklists for cleanliness, safety, and inventory
- Schedule and perform equipment maintenance and safety checks
- Improve material flow, layout, and overall shop efficiency
Production Planning & Coordination
- Translate production schedules into daily task lists and shop priorities
- Coordinate with the Operations and Logistics Manager for materials and timelines
- Track job progress, material usage, and team efficiency
- Support documentation for time tracking, material costs, and job reporting
- Ensure all work aligns with internal SOPs, safety regulations, and quality standards
Hands-On Fabrication (as needed)
- Step in on complex builds, custom pieces, or quality assurance tasks
- Operate woodworking equipment, CNC machines, and other shop tools
- Assist with sanding, assembly, finishing, wiring, packaging, or installation prep
- Be available at all levels to ensure timely and successful project delivery
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 2+ years in a supervisory or foreman role managing fabrication teams
- 5+ years hands-on experience in woodworking, furniture, or architectural millwork
- Strong project planning and shop coordination skills
- Proven ability to lead by example and enforce a disciplined, safety-first environment
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Experience with equipment maintenance, inventory control, and staff development
Bonus (Not Required):
- Experience with CNC programming and operation
- Familiarity with Fusion 360 or other 3D CAD platforms
- Knowledge of low-voltage wiring or lighting assembly
Compensation & Employment Details
- Pay: Up to $35/hour, depending on experience
- Hours: Monday to Friday (overtime or weekend availability required as needed)
