Woodworking Fabricator / Project Lead (Architectural Products & Lighting)

Fishtnk Design Factory is a B Corp-certified, design-focused manufacturing studio based in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood. Under our brand aaline, we produce high-end architectural lighting and acoustic systems with a focus on sustainable materials and clean modern craftsmanship.
We operate a cross-disciplinary studio and fabrication space under one roof, with a team of designers and makers who work across wood, aluminum, textiles, and electronics to create projects that bridge furniture, architecture, and product design.
The Role
We’re seeking a skilled Fabricator / Project Lead with a background in fabrication & making, industrial & fine woodworking to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is highly detail-oriented, takes pride in craftsmanship, and can confidently lead a project from start to finish — either solo or with a small support team.
You’ll be responsible for managing and executing both custom and production builds of architectural lighting and furniture-like assemblies, using a wide range of shop tools, materials, and methods.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Execute assigned projects from concept hand-off to final assembly
- Plan material usage and job approach with minimal supervision
- Operate woodworking equipment, saws, jigs, and CNC machines (training available)
- Carry out fine carpentry tasks including glue-ups, precision joinery, sanding, and finishing
- Integrate other materials like aluminum, felt, and low-voltage lighting into assemblies
- Maintain an organized workspace and contribute to shop upkeep
- Assist in packaging, installation prep, or on-site delivery when required
- Occasionally lead or assist in training junior team members
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in woodworking or architectural fabrication
- Strong understanding of fabrication techniques, material behaviour, and tooling
- Experience running projects independently and delivering high-quality results on schedule
- Ability to read technical drawings and think through fabrication solutions
- Meticulous, efficient, and self-directed with strong problem-solving instincts
Preferred Backgrounds:
- Degree or diploma in industrial design, architectural & furniture manufacturing, millwork/fine woodworking, or related field
- Experience with CNC operation, 3D CAD (Fusion 360, Rhino, etc.), or LED lighting integration
- Past experience in a small-batch, custom, or design-build studio environment
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $25–$30/hour depending on experience
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM
- Employment Type: Payroll employee, WSIB covered
- Environment: Clean, well-equipped shop with collaborative team culture
- Path to Full-Time: Strong candidates will be considered for a permanent position after 3-month contract
