Requisition ID: 231789

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Purpose

The role of the Senior Manager, FinOps & Cost Management, functions as a strategic financial partner and expert navigator for our internal technology and business clients. This role is responsible for building deep partnerships with business units and technology teams to understand their goals and consumption patterns, then guiding them through the financial landscape of cloud and data capabilities to identify cost optimization opportunities and ensure efficient resource allocation. This role focuses on translating technical consumption into clear financial pathways, maintaining cost visibility for each business unit, facilitating financial understanding, and ensuring teams maximize value from available technology capabilities within budgetary constraints.

We are looking for a leader who excels at demystifying complex technical spend, fostering productive collaboration, and driving financial discipline. You will work closely with business leaders, technology product owners, finance functions, and engineering teams to ensure seamless cost transparency, effective utilization of our platforms, and ultimately, driving our modernization with financial prudence.

You are a natural financial facilitator and strategic guide, adept at translating both business requirements for technical teams and technical costs for business users. You inspire confidence by making the complex financial aspects clear and by connecting business problems to cost-effective technology solutions. You champion financial literacy, cost awareness, and the effective use of our technology investments, always striving to simplify cost management and enhance financial outcomes. You have a demonstrated ability to forge strong partnerships across diverse internal groups — including senior business leaders, product managers, architects, and engineers.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

• Be the Financial Partner. Serve as the primary financial navigator and relationship manager for assigned internal business units and technology groups, deeply understanding their strategic goals and guiding them through the technology cost ecosystem, explaining consumption models, cost drivers, and optimization best practices.
• Lead Cloud Cost Optimization. Drive efforts in cloud cost management, including developing comprehensive asset forecasts, generating insightful financial reporting, and establishing effective feedback loops to ensure consumers are aware of and accountable for their cloud spend.
• Manage Financial Intake Processes. Oversee the financial intake process for new technology initiatives, validating Application Portfolio Management (APM) and IT transit funding to ensure budget availability prior to onboarding, and providing accurate cost estimations for precise forecasting of impacts to the GDAP cloud budget.
• Support FinOps Chargeback Models. Provide critical support for the FinOps intake process by contributing inputs to the chargeback model, ensuring tenants are appropriately charged for their consumption and usage.
• Be the Cost Portfolio Owner. Co-develop and maintain client-side initiative cost portfolios and align to internal product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with both business priorities and central FinOps strategy.
• Be the Enabler. Identify financial skill gaps related to technology consumption and develop/deliver targeted training, workshops, and resources to enhance FinOps literacy and cost-aware decision-making.
• Be the Value Advocate. Work with business units and finance to provide transparency on costs, manage associated budgets, track the ROI/value delivered by technology initiatives, and drive cost-saving opportunities.
• Be a Strategic Connector. Ensure financial insights inform our technology strategy and, conversely, that our cost management capabilities and strategic direction are well understood by business and technology stakeholders. Partner closely with CIO Cloud Champions to foster business line expense awareness and embed cost-conscious practices across the organization.
• Champion a FinOps-driven culture to deepen cost efficiency and leverage broader organizational knowledge to execute on our financial optimization strategy.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

• Proven experience in a financial business partnering, FinOps, cloud cost management, or strategic planning role within a complex enterprise environment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, with an ability to tailor financial messages to diverse audiences including senior executives.
• Ability to be an effective influencer on cost optimization, financial governance, and best practices / an effective evangelist for FinOps-driven decision-making.
• Experience with consultative approaches and client-side financial roadmap development.
• Knowledge of common FinOps tools, cloud cost management platforms, and financial methodologies.
• Experience in developing and delivering financial training or enablement programs related to technology spend.
• Understanding of cost management principles, budgeting, and ROI analysis within a technology or data context.
• Ability to solve ambiguous and novel business problems by identifying appropriate financial solutions.
• Attention to details, high standards for quality in financial planning and enablement deliverables.
• Passion for driving teams towards high performance and a deep pride in enabling business success through financial efficiency.
• Writing and maintaining related documentation (e.g., cost roadmaps, training materials, value frameworks).
• Understand how the Bank's/Company's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions related to financial governance.
• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and relevant principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, and conduct risk.
• Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

Dimensions

• Interacts with senior executives, business unit leaders, and technology leadership. Scope is enterprise, Bank-wide/Company-wide, supporting multiple business functions, with an initial focus on cloud expenses and a future expansion to include broader technology and operational expenditures, such as talent-related costs.
