The Central Alberta FASD Network is a non-profit organization offering community-based, cost-free and fee for service programming for persons impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), their caregivers and the community. We are part of a systemwide FASD Network model that has made Alberta a leader in service delivery, both in Canada and internationally. We offer education, prevention, assessment and diagnosis, and outreach and support services. We are seeking to fill one full-time Restorative Justice Outreach Worker position for Red Deer and surrounding Area.

Job Summary:

The Restorative Justice Outreach Worker assists in supporting and diverting youth and adult offenders suspected or diagnosed with FASD, from involvement in the criminal justice system. Support may occur at any stage including pre-involvement with, and within, the judicial system and include both provincial and federal. The incumbent will forge relationships with RCMP, AB Crown, Defense Council, Provincial Court, Provincial and Federal Institutions, community service providers, and government agencies. The successful candidate will encourage the client’s active participation in developing goals that address their unique concerns and are sensitive to their unique circumstances. The incumbent will work closely with key community services and assist external service providers in developing a greater understanding of how best to support individuals impacted by FASD.

Summary of Duties:

· Has knowledge and experience working within the criminal justice system.

· Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and professionalism and able to liaise with all levels of the criminal justice system.

· Demonstrates the ability to work successfully with incarcerated individuals.

· Provides support services that include ongoing assessment of individual and/or family/caregiver functioning, relational systems and environmental constraints and resources.

· Supports positive, sustainable behavioral change as well as intrapersonal and interpersonal growth and development.

· Assists clients in navigating the FASD assessment and diagnosis process if applicable.

· Provides clients with FASD post-assessment and diagnosis follow-up support.

· Supports clients connected with the Restorative Justice Services Coordinator, Assessment Coordinator, and other applicable positions.

· Identifies barriers to service and addresses any concerns, such as client’s ability to provide a point of contact for themselves, scheduling assessments, transportation issues etc.

· Assist clients and additional supports in identifying and accessing appropriate community and government services as required.

· Assist clients with completion of necessary applications for services and other paperwork.

· Advertise FASD education and training opportunities provided by the Central Alberta FASD Network to communities.

· Represents the Central Alberta Network at community events and through public awareness activities.

Education and Qualifications:

· Undergraduate degree or diploma in justice, social work, social science, or related field and/or comparable experience with FASD, disabilities, mental health, addictions.

· Minimum of 3 years work experience with vulnerable, marginalized or at-risk populations.

· Extensive knowledge regarding disabilities, mental health and addictions, and justice related.

· Commitment to a strength-based, client-centred approach.

· Superior communication ability and interpersonal skills.

· High level of personal integrity and ethical practice.

· High degree of Indigenous cultural awareness, and cultural awareness in general.

· Knowledge of community development processes and ability to enhance community capacity.

· Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and tight timelines.

· Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.

· A vehicle and valid class 5 driver’s license.

The position is 35 hours/week, Monday – Friday; flexibility will be required and the capacity to work evenings and occasional weekends.
