A test lead typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Creating test strategy and test plan for required project
- Reviewing test plans to ensure that all steps have been completed and all requirements have been met before approving test plans for execution
- Leading the testing to create test cases to ensure the full coverage
- Communicating with other project team members such as programmers, analysts, and software developers regarding project status, issues, or concerns
- Conducting research on new testing automation technologies to determine their application in future projects
- Coordinating with managers to ensure that deadlines are met and quality standards are maintained
- Evaluating the success of a test by comparing results to predicted outcomes or using other metrics such as code coverage or defect rates
- Coordinating activities with vendors and other external parties involved in the testing process
- Coordinating with clients to determine project goals and objectives, and scheduling tests accordingly
- Monitoring progress throughout the test cycle to ensure that milestones are met
- Conducting tests on software applications and computer systems to identify issues and find solutions
- Performing load and volume testing with team as required
- Creating test reports and presenting to customers
- Managing the code release approval processes to QA environments
