Volunteer Opportunity
The City of Fernie invites residents who want to make a difference in their community to apply to serve as a member of the Official Community Plan Task Force.
The OCP Advisory Task Force will be comprised of eight (8) members representing the diversity of the community, including a range of ages, lived experiences, cultural backgrounds, and perspectives. Task Force members will be selected to ensure broad representation of local interests and community knowledge. This is a non-paid volunteer position and members participate primarily in an advisory capacity to the City of Fernie.
Membership will aim to include individuals with experience, interest or involvement in areas including, but not limited to:
- Environmental stewardship and climate resilience;
- Health, wellness, and social services;
- Housing;
- Land development;
- Local business, entrepreneurship, and the economy;
- Arts, culture, and heritage;
- Education and youth development;
- Tourism and recreation;
- Transportation and mobility;
- Indigenous relations and reconciliation;
- Resources;
- Equity, diversity, and inclusion; and
- Community members at large, including youth, seniors, renters, and families.
Members commit to meeting regularly and are responsible for providing input and on key issues, opportunities and community priorities. The OCP Advisory Committee is planning to kick off in September 2025 and will operate through the completion of the project, projected for early 2027.
