Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the varsity hockey sport official may perform some or all of the listed general administration functions. These functions are of moderate complexity and the sport official performs them using established instructions. Sport Officials will be responsible to work both conference and exhibition games as well as any tournaments and playoffs. The official will oversee one major task for each game - outlined below. These games will take place at McConnell Arena for the 2025-2026 season.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Performs setup and take down of event equipment.
- Records game statistics & game sheets using official online platform
- Operates the Public Address (PA) system to announce lineups, period stats, goals, penalties, etc.
- Operates the scoreboard equipment to track game time and penalty time on the scoreboard.
- In charge of collecting official roster and starters from both coaches, keeping track of all goals and penalties throughout the game, including time, verifying information with the referees throughout the game, etc.
- Operates music system as per the run of show.
- The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. You may also be tasked to work at other varsity sport games as a replacement.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- Sport specific knowledge of hockey is required for most positions
- Must be able to work evenings (Wed-Sat) and weekends (Sat-Sun)
- Must be punctual, organized, reliable and have the ability to multitask
- Previous experience is an asset
- Bilingualism is an asset for some positions (announcer)
- Strong computer skills are an asset for some positions (statistics)
