Reports To: Director of Penticton Operations

Term: Temporary Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 2PM-10PM

Wage Range: $25.95 to $29.76 based on education and related experience.

Position Summary: The Liaison works in partnership with Burdock House to provide support to individuals who have identified gaps in services and/or have difficulties navigating resources within the community. With an emphasis on reducing loitering around Burdock House, the goal is to assist individuals in accessing essential services. Service delivery is based on a client-centered, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental perspective.

Typical Duties Include:

Liaison Worker Responsibilities

  • Monitor and move along community members who are loitering in and around ASK properties.
  • Perform building-based outreach in being a good neighbor as needed by the Burdock program.
  • Work closely with the Burdock program coordinator and community resources to provide efficient community services and housing navigation.
  • Provide transportation to shelter and housing services.
  • Support problem solving and relationship building for participants in shelter and housing settings.
  • Build professional therapeutic relationships with community partners and members.
  • Attend applicable community meetings.
  • Provide crisis/transition point intervention when necessary for clients.
  • Encourage the community to live as fully and independently as possible within the local community, providing information, emotional, organizational, and practical support, and training as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the protection of Program Participants from abuse, support Participants when they are in distress, and ensure their safety.
  • Encourage and motivate Program Participants to develop a sense of their own identity, purpose, and self-esteem.
  • When necessary, be trained to be the first to respond to an overdose situation with on-the-spot overdose response and support, and be prepared to work calmly and together with your team, paramedics, and

police in crisis situations.

  • Ensure compliance with all the Society’s supportive standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Support peer workers in their daily job duties and understanding roles and responsibilities.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of potential Program Participants using the BC Housing-mandated Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT) when requested.
  • Complete accurate and up-to-date communication/case notes.
  • Maintain files and statistics as per accreditation standards.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching are required with this position.
  • When requested, be a member of the Society’s Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) team.
  • Ensure compliance with all Society policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Work, Human Services Diploma, Support Worker/Care Aid Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or lived experience.
  • Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries and professional boundaries.
  • Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
  • Good communication, documentation, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency support.
  • Strong working knowledge of community resources.
  • Must pass an acceptable criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
  • Standard First Aid Level 1 required.
  • Driver's license required
  • Readiness to complete in-house online training within the first month of employment.
  • Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.
