The City is making a transformational cultural shift on how we approach Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). As an Occupational Safety Project Specialist, you will work as a project manager, developing and implementing health and safety programs and initiatives. This includes developing and updating standards and processes applied across the organization that meet regulatory and legislative compliance. You will lead multiple projects from start to finish, ensuring projects stay on schedule, within budget, and aligned to the City's OHS priorities and goals. Primary duties include:
- Act as the project lead for multiple safety projects initiated by the business units, form teams and balance conflicting priorities on projects.
- Initiate, plan, execute, oversee, and close assigned project scopes as assigned by interested parties.
- Develop business cases, project charters, and project plans and complete project work to align with The City's safety needs, assignments, and new initiatives.
- Ensure that the project management team is supported; mitigate and manage any conflicts.
- Work with interested parties to address program and project issues.
- Develop and sustain positive and productive working relationships with internal and external interested parties, and identify opportunities to improve partnerships.
- Collaborate with staff across The City to develop relevant standards, procedures, and corporate practices that affect the occupational health and safety of employees.
- Analyze internal and external trends, economic conditions, and other factors that may impact OHS.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety, Science or a related field and at least 5 years of experience leading and managing multidisciplinary projects/activities.
- Occupational Health and Safety experience or a working familiarity with Safety is preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and MS Teams.
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate will be considered an asset.
- Well-developed communication skills, the ability to provide or receive detailed or specialized information and explain complex legislated requirements to employees.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively with team members and other business units and departments.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
