Job Title: Social Media Marketing Coordinator (Up to 3 positions available)

About Us
The Meliorist is the independent student publication at the University of Lethbridge. Since 1967, we’ve been the student voice on campus—publishing bold, inclusive, and creative content across print and digital platforms. In our dual role as a local nonprofit and campus levy-group, we serve over 10,000 students with a mission to reflect, critique, and celebrate campus life and culture.
Position Overview
We are hiring three (3) Social Media Coordinators, each are responsible for managing a specific set of platforms:
- Coordinator 1: Instagram & Facebook
- Coordinator 2: X (formerly Twitter) & LinkedIn
- Coordinator 3: TikTok
Together, this team will shape The Meliorist’s digital voice, grow our audience, and promote engagement with our stories, events, and initiatives. Coordinators will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and collaborate with one another to maintain consistency, strategy, and creative direction across platforms.
Key Responsibilities (for all coordinators)
- Develop and execute platform-specific content strategies aligned with publication themes
- Create engaging and accessible posts, reels, stories, or threads using Canva or similar tools
- Promote newly published articles, contributor calls, events, and student engagement opportunities
- Respond to messages, comments, and tags promptly and professionally
- Monitor metrics and suggest growth strategies unique to each platform
- Participate in team meetings and coordinate cross-platform campaigns
- Track social trends relevant to students, journalism, and university life
Ideal Qualifications
- Enrolled U of L student (or recent grad eligible for student hiring)
- Familiarity with the platforms for the role you’re applying to
- Experience managing social media accounts (personal, academic, freelance, or organizational)
- Strong writing, design, and video editing skills
- A creative, student-centered voice and interest in media, storytelling, or communications
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, and meet deadlines
- An eye for trends and a commitment to inclusive, community-focused content
Compensation
· Hourly Rate: $17–$20, based on experience
· Hours: 10–15 hours per month (approx. 3–4 hours per week)
· Type: Paid student position with flexible scheduling around classes and campus events
