If you're a motivated and organized legal assistant or law clerk with a passion for litigation, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
- Perform legal assistant, clerical and administrative duties.
- Draft, prepare and revise routine correspondence and documents.
- Assist in preparation of briefs and records, including formatting electronically in accordance with online court filing system specifications.
- Arrange for the service and filing of all forms, corresponding documents, and pleadings.
- Liaise professionally with clients, lawyers, and court staff.
- Schedule appointments, maintain calendar, book travel & accommodations.
- Monitor deadlines, send reminders and assist lawyers to prepare and file timely responses per deadlines.
- Maintain knowledge and comply with the firm’s practice and file management policies and procedures.
- Maintain tickler and bring forward system.
- Enter expense claims, as necessary.
- Billing: WIP, Prebills, and Invoicing.
- Organize files and expedite the flow of work.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercial litigation and arbitration.
- Solid understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure and Superior Court of Justice Civil Practice Directions.
- Experience booking motions, court attendances, and case conferences.
- Must be familiar with Case Center.
- Experience with ACL, Everlaw, NetDocuments, and Actionstep (formally Soluno) or similar programs is an asset.
- Familiarity with the Trademark Opposition Board and Federal Court procedures is an asset.
- Legal Assistant Certificate, Law Clerk Certificate, or equivalent education.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled in multitasking, prioritizing, and time management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
