PROFILE
Gowling WLG’s Restructuring, Insolvency, and Advisory Group provides strategic legal solutions across the full spectrum of financial situations, from early stage operational restructuring and informal workouts, to formal proceedings under Canada’s Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) and Companies Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) to liquidation and receivership. We act on insolvency matters across various industries, including real estate, construction, transportation, technology, agriculture, retail, oil & gas, medical, and dental.
We are looking for a Legal Administrative Assistant to with strong litigation experience, excellent attention to detail, and a genuine interest in insolvency and restructuring to join our team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize and expedite the flow of work through the professionals’ practice, initiating any follow-up action as appropriate;
- Accurately and efficiently prepare court documents and correspondence with a high degree of autonomy;
- Prepare court documents and correspondence;
- Coordinate flow of documents between legal professionals, various internal and external individuals, and clients at all levels;
- Work proactively in the day-to-day support of the professionals’ practices;
- Use initiative and good judgement to relieve the professionals of administrative detail;
- Generate documents based on digital dictation;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of five years’ experience in litigation is required;
- Insolvency experience is preferred;
- Strong knowledge of Alberta Rules of Court;
- Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- Ability to handle a heavy and varied workload;
- Exceptional organizational skills;
- Advanced computer skills with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Strong digital dictation experience;
- Excellent client service skills, and professionalism;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting and emerging priorities;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with other staff and professionals.
