Overview Indigenous Homeward Bound Fort Erie (IHBFE) supports sole-parenting Indigenous women in overcoming barriers to meaningful employment, improved well-being, and lasting prosperity. Through safe housing, access to culture, quality childcare, education, life skills, reliable transportation, and coordinated case management, we provide comprehensive, culturally grounded supports. In this role, you will work collaboratively to empower participants to achieve their goals, from completing post secondary education to securing sustainable, career-track employment.
Qualification & Requirements A 2-year College Diploma in Social Service Work, or a related field. Previous experience in a similar role is an asset, but if you have the skills and passion, we encourage you to apply even without direct experience. Must have or be able to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (CPIC). Must hold a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
Primary Responsibilities 1. Support Indigenous women, particularly sole parents, in achieving education, employment, and training goals through coordinated access to childcare, transportation, health, mental health, and other supports. 2.Provide case management services, including tracking participant progress, maintaining program database records, and preparing quarterly reports. 3.Process supportive housing applications and provide advocacy services as needed. 4.Plan and facilitate culturally relevant workshops, presentations, special events, and community engagement activities. 5. Build and maintain connections with Indigenous and non-Indigenous agencies, organizations, and services to support clients experiencing mental health challenges. 6. In coordination with, and in the absence of, the coordinator, manage program budgets and maintain accurate records. 7.Incorporate FENFC cultural teachings and values into all service delivery. 8.Travel as required and work some evenings and weekends.
Knowledge & Skills Strong understanding of Traditional Cultural knowledge and the ability to apply it when supporting community members, using an Indigenous perspective alongside awareness of western approaches. Awareness of the cultural, social, and practical needs, barriers, and goals of Indigenous women, with care, compassion, and the ability to build genuine connections. Strong organizational skills, including planning, meeting deadlines, and working well both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, including facilitating discussions and delivering engaging presentations. Proficiency in computer use and digital tools for program materials and marketing. Knowledge of the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre, as well as surrounding Indigenous and non Indigenous organizations, to help connect community members, youth, and families with appropriate supports.
