Job Summary
The Sales Associate is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced retail environment while performing a variety of tasks that ensure smooth store operations. The incumbent will ensure efficiency, accurate pricing, and well-stocked shelves.
Key Responsibilities & Expectations
Customer Service Excellence
- Greet customers warmly and provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
- Assist customers in selecting appropriate merchandise and offer knowledgeable advice.
Cashier Functions
- Operate all point-of-sale equipment, including cash registers, with speed and accuracy.
- Record and collect payments for purchases while keeping accurate records of transactions (cash, in-house charges, credit/debit cards, gift cards).
- Reconcile sales records with cash and credit information daily, ensuring accuracy and balance.
- Follow proper procedures for returns, refunds, and special orders, according to store policy.
Merchandising & Inventory Control
- Unload incoming trucks and check merchandise against invoices to identify shortages, damaged goods, or back-orders pertaining to position.
- Update prices on merchandise, bins, and displays as needed, and ensure all products are correctly priced.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and tidy stock area.
- Build and remove special displays for promotions, sales, and other events, and reorganize stock after the events.
- Participate in regular cycle counts and assist with annual inventory counts.
- Record and process special orders for non-stock or out-of-stock items, and record and reorder merchandise according to store buying procedures.
- Assist customers with carrying large or heavy items to their vehicles.
- Ensure products, price tags, signage, and promotional displays are clean, current, and well-presented.
- Maintain stock levels on shelves by replenishing and restocking merchandise efficiently and accurately.
- Support inventory management through regular cycle counting, replenishing stock, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
Store Readiness & Maintenance
- Support opening and closing procedures, including security measures and housekeeping duties.
- Keep the checkout area, shelves, and merchandise displays neat, tidy, and well-organized.
- Assist with general housekeeping duties, ensuring cleanliness and orderliness throughout the store.
Professionalism & Appearance
- Maintain a professional, well-groomed appearance in line with the store’s uniform policy.
Safety & Security
- Monitor for potential shoplifting incidents and take appropriate actions as per store policy.
- Follow and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for employees and customers.
Team Support & Training
- Assist in training new personnel.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Support store management with additional duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous retail experience is an asset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and continuously develop professional skills.
Working Conditions
- Work in a fast-paced environment that requires long periods of standing and walking.
- Exposure to dust and strong odors.
- Lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
