Job Description
The Yard Shipper is responsible for servicing customers when picking up material in the yard, assembling orders for shipment, and delivering product when needed. Duties include receiving product supplier-direct shipments, and lumber & building material shipments arriving at the yard. He or she must make sure the yard and lumber warehouse are neat, clean, and orderly.
Responsibilities
- Servicing customers picking up material
- Check incoming merchandise against invoices or orders to spot shortages, damaged good, backorders, etc.
- Assembling orders for delivery
- Follow company procedures regarding required signatures, forms, receipts, etc.
- Follow all safety precautions when loading and unloading freight.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense.
- Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
Qualifications
- Class G licences.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with management, employees, and delivery personnel.
- Willingness to learn.
- Forklift experience and delivery experience are assets.
