As such, Cobourg Home Hardware Building Centre is currently seeking temporary Lumber Yard Associates.
We are seeking individuals for a special project in our Lumber Yard; we are expecting temporary yard associates to work approximately 38-42.5 hours a week for approximately 3 weeks with the potential for an extension.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Special project involving moving heavy items in the yard to different locations, cleaning up debris and old lumber and properly disposing of materials.
- Full yard clean up, using forklifts to move items and lifting heavy objects in a safe manner to different positions of the yard.
- Actively seek out and offer a friendly greeting throughout the Lumber Yard and Retail Store
- Assist all customers to the best of your ability and always seek help when needed
- Load and unload materials and building supplies
- Take all necessary safety precautions when handling freight, tools, and equipment
- Store material in the appropriate locations throughout the Lumber Yard
- Keep the Yard clean and the inventory neat and orderly
- Be familiar with the locations(s) of all inventory and equipment
- Be familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, including forklift, lumber cart, pallet jack, banding machine, etc.
- Be aware of theft and take action, in line with company policy, to report or discourage it
- Restock lumber bins, sheds and other areas when they are depleted and as instructed
- Check incoming merchandise against orders or invoices, identify damaged goods, shortages, and back-orders
- Report any shortages, damaged goods, and back-orders to your Supervisor
- Must come to work on time and be ready to work when your shift begins
- Must arrive to work with proper Home Hardware apparel including safety boots and high-visibility clothing/shirt
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
- 1+ years of prior retail or industry related experience is beneficial
- A valid class G license with a clean driving record is considered an asset
- Possess a high regard for safety in the workplace
- Being physically fit is an asset as this is a labour intensive role
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted
- Able to lift at least 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Excellent communication skills
- A ‘can-do’ attitude with a desire and willingness to learn is an asset
- Ability to work cooperatively in team atmosphere and in a variety of environments/weather conditions
