For over 40 years, Altex Systems has been providing professional electrical services to clients in Calgary and its surrounding areas. Our services include electrical installations and maintenance of building card access systems, surveillance systems, data systems, sound and intercom systems, controls, and fire alarm monitoring and testing.
We are looking for Data Communication Technicians to provide service for commercial clients and work on small commercial projects.

What your typical workday may look like:
- Reviewing and prioritizing assigned work orders.
- Planning your day with safety hazard assessments and inspections (using SiteDocs mobile app).
- Creating material lists, sourcing parts, placing orders, and picking up materials from various vendors.
- Attending various locations throughout the greater Calgary area, trouble-shooting issues, preparing for and performing required maintenance efficiently, while ensuring safety, functionality, and budget requirements.
- Directing and managing small projects, which may include installations of telecommunications closets, cable support systems (cable tray, j-hooks and ladder tray), voice/data, access control, audio/video and video surveillance systems.
- Interpreting diagrams, blueprints and other related drawings, in order to assist in the development of quotations for clients, project implementation plans, material orders, hazard assessments, etc.
- Documenting actions – recording test results, observations, diagnosis, and steps taken to resolve issues, as well as properly tracking materials and equipment used in order to complete work orders for billing by the office.
- Professionally communicating with customers and coworkers…including mentoring and training junior teammates.
Qualifications:
- Electrical Apprenticeship, Journeyman Ticket, or Telecommunications Technician Diploma.
- Relevant Safety Tickets (examples: CSTS and WHMIS, First Aid, Aerial Work Platform, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Leadership for Safety Excellence etc.)
- Previous experience or interest in working on voice and data system, video surveillance systems, public address (PA) systems. Security certifications would be a BONUS but not required.
- Experience with or interest in learning how to read mechanical and electrical blueprints.
- Proficiency or willingness to learn the Alberta Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Alberta Electrical Utility Code, etc.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills as it will be required to complete and submit accurate documentation to track work progress including time sheets and other related documents.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, with some (minimal) overtime required.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- A professional/clean demeanor.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs., work on ladders/lifts, and use power tools.
- Commitment to safety. We take the protection of our people and the public very seriously.
- Reliable transportation to various jobsites around Calgary area. Those that may be required to drive company vehicles, must provide a clean driving record (3-year abstract required)
- Clean Criminal Record (due to the sensitive nature of our clients, a criminal record check is required)
