Camrose Open Door Association is hiring a Counsellor to provide mental health supports to youth and their families. This position counsels at-risk individuals, primarily 11-24 years of age, and/or families with a focus on mental health, emotional well-being, and personal growth. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to client-centered care. This is a contract position till March 31, 2026, with a possibility of extension.
Duties:
A. Provide Therapeutic Counselling:
- Conduct initial assessments to identify clients' presenting issues and goals for therapy.
- Develop treatment plans that outline specific interventions and goals for therapy.
- Facilitate individual and group counselling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
B. Offer Support and Guidance:
- Provide empathetic and nonjudgmental support to clients during counselling sessions.
- Help clients explore their feelings and thoughts to gain insight into their problems.
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies and problem-solving skills to address challenges.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to clients facing challenging life situations.
- Help clients set achievable goals and work towards positive changes in their lives.
C. Educate and Inform:
- Provide psychoeducation on topics such as stress management, communication skills, healthy relationships and self care practices.
- Inform clients about community resources, such as support groups and mental health clinics.
- Promote self-care practices and healthy lifestyle choices to enhance overall well-being.
- Raise awareness about mental health and destigmatize seeking help for mental health concerns.
D. Collaborate with Other Professionals:
- Consult with other psychologists, social workers, and other professionals to coordinate care for clients.
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss client progress and treatment plans.
- Communicate effectively with other professionals to ensure continuity of care for clients.
Maintain Documentation and Records:
- Keep accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and assessment reports.
- Ensure that client records are stored securely and in compliance with confidentiality regulations.
- Prepare and maintain documentation required for billing and reporting purposes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legal and ethical standards in record-keeping practices.
F. Engage in Professional Development:
- Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay informed about current trends and best practices in counselling and mental health
- Seek supervision and feedback from supervisors and peers to enhance counselling skills and improve counselling effectiveness
- Pursue opportunities for advanced training and certification in specific counselling modalities.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs to enhance counselling skills and knowledge.
- Maintain professional certification and insurance
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Counselling Psychology or a related field.
- Registered or eligible for registration with a relevant professional association (e.g., College of Alberta Psychologists, Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association).
- Experience providing counselling services in a community-based setting.
- Knowledge of a variety of therapeutic modalities and evidence-based practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour
