Community Development Event & Volunteer Coordinator

PADS
Calgary, Alberta
Full time
Application Deadline: Wednesday, July 2, 2025

PUPPIES ARE JUST ONE OF THE JOB PERKS!

We’re an organization driven by passionate people – that happens to include puppies – that grow up to change lives every single day. We expect excellence from ourselves and our team, but we have fun too. Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) breeds, raises and trains fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support wellness in our community.

We’re proud to be the first fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International in Canada.

OVERVIEW

Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) is looking for an organized, people-focused Community Development Event & Volunteer Coordinator to support our growing volunteer community and lead event planning efforts across the Lower Mainland (and occasionally beyond). If you’re passionate about making a difference, love bringing people together, and thrive in a dynamic environment, this could be the role for you.

ABOUT US

At PADS, we foster a constructive, cooperative, and welcoming team setting. Our commitment is to cultivate an empowering environment for our team. We value a sustainable work-life balance and believe that work should be fun! We approach challenges with a growth mindset, striving for improvement and innovation. As the Community Development Event & Volunteer Coordinator you’ll embody PADS’ core values, including a commitment to compassion, transparency, and the ethical treatment of dogs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Event Planning & Execution (60%)

  • Plan and deliver community events, fundraisers, open houses, and outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate all logistics, including venues, permits, supplies, and communications.
  • Work with the communications team to promote events via social media, email, and community postings.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and impact tracking; prepare post-event reports and recommendations.
  • Act as the lead on-site contact, ensuring smooth operations and a welcoming atmosphere.

Volunteer Coordination (40%)

  • Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers to support PADS’s organizational needs.
  • Schedule and support volunteers, ensuring they feel informed, appreciated, and engaged.
  • Maintain up-to-date records (e.g., hours, assignments, availability).
  • Serve as the main contact for volunteers; provide regular updates, recognition, and feedback.
  • Collaborate with the community development team on volunteer participation in events.
  • Provide input to help improve event effectiveness and volunteer engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, and community engagement.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills; adaptable and detail-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable engaging with diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite; experience with CRM or volunteer management systems is an asset.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs; valid driver’s license and access to transportation preferred.
  • Flexible schedule — evening and weekend availability required; time off in lieu provided.

WORKING CONDITIONS & COMPENSATION

Location: Burnaby, BC
Employment Type: Full-time
Work Arrangement: 37.5 hours per week with a flexible work schedule depending on event and activation needs.
Compensation: $55,000 annually as a starting salary based on a 37.5-hour work week. A benefits package is available after the 3-month probation period.

BE YOU. WITH US.

We serve communities that are greater and stronger because of their diversity. What makes YOU different is worth both celebrating and cultivating.

PADS is committed to equality across race, gender, age, religion, identity, ability, and experience. We invite you to bring your whole self to our team, helping us to change lives, one dog — and person — at a time.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A GOOD FIT?

If you are a dedicated individual with a passion for helping others and a desire to grow your skills in a supportive environment, we encourage you to apply! before June 19, 2025.

Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the hiring process. Applicants are invited to make required accommodations known in advance.
