Job Description
The Black Community Resource Centre (BCRC) is seeking a dynamic and passionate Communications & Social Media Intern to join our team and support the development of engaging digital content across our platforms. This position is perfect for students who are passionate about community work, creative storytelling, digital media, and brand promotion and who want to use their skills to raise awareness, engage youth, and make a real impact in the lives of Black communities across Quebec.
Reporting to the Managing Director the Communications and Social Media Officer will support internal and external communications, visual storytelling, and content strategy. You will also assist with documenting community events, coordinating digital campaigns, and strengthening BCRC’s online presence.
As a Communications & Social Media Intern, you will play a key role in helping us raise awareness, rebrand our organization, and engage with youth in our community. You will be responsible for launching a marketing campaign, redefining the organization’s public image, and building our presence both online and in person. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in nonprofit marketing, branding, and community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Digital Content Creation
- Design and publish engaging, accessible, and culturally relevant content across BCRC’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and website.
- Capture, edit, and post event highlights, interviews, and community stories using photo, video, and graphic tools.
- Draft blog posts, program descriptions, and promotional content that reflect BCRC’s voice and values.
- Create and distribute a monthly newsletter to keep community members informed about programs, events, and opportunities.
Communications Strategy & Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with staff and project teams to develop communication and outreach plans for upcoming workshops, programs, and campaigns.
- Assist with the creation of press releases, reports, and internal documentation to support the organization’s communication needs.
- Help shape messaging that aligns with BCRC’s mission, values, and campaign goals.
Community Outreach & Promotion
- Support community outreach efforts by promoting events, programs, and research projects to youth and the wider community.
- Act as a brand ambassador for BCRC, helping to strengthen visibility and public engagement both online and in person.
- Attend and promote BCRC events; connect with local schools, partners, and organizations to advertise programs and activities.
- Co-create outreach content and strategies that speak to the lived experiences of youth and Black communities in Quebec.
Media Archiving & Storytelling
- Support the collection and organization of digital assets, including event photos, testimonials, and videos.
- Help document community-based research and engagement through storytelling formats such as blogs, interviews, and short video features.
- Track social media analytics and engagement metrics to assess impact and inform future strategies.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program, ideally in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content for various platforms.
- Creativity and ability to think outside the box—experience with graphic design or video creation is a plus.
- Experience managing social media platforms, including content creation and engagement.
- Passion for community engagement, social impact, and nonprofit work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing youth and marginalized communities is an asset.
- Experience in marketing, event planning, or community outreach an asset.
- Experience with social media & web content or blogging an asset.
