Translation Intern (English-French)

Nature Conservancy of Canada / Conservation de la nature Canada
Quebec

Taking care of our environment has never been more important than it is today. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is looking for a Translation Intern to join a team committed to protecting our most important natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain.

NCC is the nation’s leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 1962, we have brought people together to conserve and restore more than 15 million hectares across Canada. NCC takes a collaborative, evidence-based approach to achieve conservation success for the sake of nature and Canadians. With a national office in Toronto and seven regional offices across the country, NCC delivers results you can walk on.

NCC recognizes that we work on lands that have long been cared for by Indigenous Peoples under their own laws and knowledge systems. We are committed to transforming how we do our work, advancing Reconciliation through conservation, and working with Indigenous Peoples in meaningful, respectful, and supportive ways.

Objectives and general description

The translation intern will support the French Language Services team within the Public Affairs and Communications unit at the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Duties will include translating from English to French and proofreading (social media posts, website pages, NCC magazine, marketing documents, etc.). Working independently or with other team members, the translation intern will contribute to other tasks related to the work submitted to Francophone Language Services, such as creating tools (e.g., bilingual glossary) to optimize our work.

This position is an excellent opportunity to apply the theories and skills learned in the classroom. Tasks such as translating, revising translated texts and texts written in French, proofreading, terminology research, updating terminology databases, aligning translated texts, etc. will allow the successful candidate to practice and develop skills that are highly sought after in the translation industry.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the translation, revision, and proofreading of documents
  • Assist in the creation of bilingual glossaries and other reference tools for all CNC staff
  • Revise the writing guide
  • Help integrate French content into the internal platform (Sharepoint)
  • Contribute to the layout of the CNC's temporary website
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Required skills and qualifications:

This position is open to individuals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a translation program or other relevant college or university program
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in French and English
  • Demonstrate unfailing attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate an interest in translation technology and artificial intelligence software and applications used to optimize translation work (e.g., memoQ, DeepL)
  • Demonstrate an interest in nature and conservation
