The Bookkeeper supports the financial operations of 1st Choice Construction Site Services by maintaining accurate, timely, and organized financial records across the business. This role is critical for enabling clean monthly financial reporting, supporting rapid growth, handling day-to-day accounting, and collaborating with Dispatch and to streamline AR/AP.
Key Responsibilities
General Bookkeeping
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Process and reconcile bank and credit card transactions weekly
- Match payments to invoices
- Monitor and maintain an accurate chart of accounts across entities
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and accruals as required
Accounts Payable
- Receive and process vendor bills
- Track due dates and ensure timely payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and follow up on discrepancies
- Ensure proper expense categorization and GST compliance
Accounts Receivable
- Reconciling payments to customer invoices
- Monitor aging report, flag overdue accounts, and prepare reports for GM
- Track customer credits and overpayments
- Outreach for overdue payments and collections
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Complete bank, credit card, and key GL reconciliations
- Prepare draft monthly financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet)
- Assist with reporting for internal management and external accountant review
- Prepare supporting documents for CPA (working papers, T2125 support, etc.)
GST & Compliance
- File GST returns on time (monthly or quarterly)
- Maintain WCB account, clearance letters, and year-end reporting
- Track repayments and interest accrual
Ad Hoc
- Assist with reporting or budgeting/forcasting requests
- Support CRA audit requests, WCB audits, and insurance reconciliations
- Maintain proper digital filing of all finance-related documents in OneDrive
Key Tools & Systems
- QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Excel / Google Sheets
- OneDrive
- Familiarity with CRA MyBusiness Account, WCB Alberta
Qualifications
- 5+ years bookkeeping experience in a service-based or construction environment
- Proficient with QBO, GST/HST filings, and financial statement prep
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable collaborating with field teams, Dispatcher, and GM
- Knowledge of Alberta tax and compliance requirements (GST, WCB, etc.)
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 per week
