The Department of Biology is seeking Contract Academic Staff to deliver the following course and labs at Brandon University for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. Lectures and labs must be delivered in-person.
15:282 Principles of Genetics, Section A00 (3 credit hours), plus lab Sections Z01, Z02, and Z10 (1.5 credit hours per section)
The course is broadly divided into three areas i) an examination of Mendelian inheritance, and the expansion of Mendelian principles, ii) an analysis of the molecular basis of inheritance, thus providing an introduction to the structure and function of genes, and iii) an examination of variation in gene frequencies both within and between populations, relating that variation to the concepts of species and evolution. Laboratory assignments complement the material presented in lecture and familiarize students with techniques employed in genetic research.
3 lecture hours per week, Fall term (September – December), currently scheduled in Slot 03, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:40 AM – 11:30 PM
3 lab sections, 3 hours each, weekly, Fall term (September – December), currently scheduled on Mondays 1:40 PM – 4:30 PM, Tuesdays 1:40 PM – 4:30 PM, and Tuesdays 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Qualifications: A PhD in Genetics or Biology or a related discipline is required. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the doctorate and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee at the address below on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
Applicants must have relevant expertise in Genetics and provide evidence of successful teaching. The instructor will be responsible for in-person laboratory delivery including the preparation of consumables, samples, solutions, and equipment as part of laboratory preparation/set-up and clean-up, laboratory safety, and marking or supervision of laboratory markers.
Salary: $7,857.00 per 3 credit hours
